PEIGA BOARD MEETING –MEETING

January  14, 2016

A meeting of the Board of the PEIGA was held at the Excel Boardroom in Stratford PEI at 6:00pm with the following members in attendance: President-Jim McQuaid, Vice President- Brenda McIlwaine, Sect’y Treas-Wayne Levy,   Sherry White, Ryan Garrett, Steven Birt, Executive Director- Ron MacNeill and Provincial Coach Sean Joyce.

With a quorum being present President McQuaid called the meeting to order.

The minutes of the November 16th meeting were reviewed approved as presented.

The proposed agenda was reviewed and the topics Player of the Year, Website and Board Terms added to the agenda.

A lengthy discussion was held on the draft budget prepared by the Board in the Budget Planning Session held on Saturday, January 9th A number of amendments were made to the initial draft budget and the approval of the attached budget forecasting a  $3,800 deficit was moved by Vice-President Brenda McIlwaine and seconded by Sherry White. The Budget was pass by unanimous vote of the Board.

Following acceptance of the Budget some Board members had other commitments and since a quorum would no longer be present the formal meeting was adjourned.

Following adjournment of the meetings a number of topics were discussed in general terms and there are outlined below:

Course Rotation – the results of the recent request for courses to host the Amateur were reviewed and some concern was expressed around the term of the request (5 years) as well as the  terms and it was decided the matter would go forward to the next Board Meeting with a view to possibly revisiting the matter.

Canada Games – attendees were reminded that 2016 is a Canada Games Year and that Sean Joyce will be attending Coaching Training in Florida in January. Funding for the Games themselves is provided by the Province and they are self-funding but the monies must flow though the Association’s Books.

Sponsorships – the need to attract new sponsors was discussed at length and will be a priority of the new Board.

Board Terms – it was pointed out that the two year term of a number of Directors was coming up and  once their intentions are know the Member Courses will be approached for any nominations required.

Golf Canada Annual Meeting – the Board was reminded that Golf Canada’s Annual Meeting is being held in Halifax from February 24th to 27th  and President Jim advised Board members they are permitted to attend the public sessions as visitors. He also provided an outline of how the meeting and individual sessions are held.

Wayne advised that due to economic reasons Golf Digest had decided to charge their Course Raters and annual membership fee of $250.US and as a result he has decided not to serve on their rating Panel any longer.  As a result Prince Edward Island will no longer be represented on the Panel which could impact the number of raters visiting Island Courses and in turn the ratings they receive. A new rater to replace Wayne will have to pay Golf Digest a $1,000 US fee to receive the necessary training as well as the $250  US annual fee.
